KEY POINTS:
New Zealand have secured their third win at the Asia-Oceania Olympic women's softball qualifying tournament in Taiwan, beating the Philippines 17-4 yesterday.
The win followed their 11-0 victory over Singapore earlier yesterday, with both games ending in just five innings after the mercy rule was invoked. The rule is applied if a team leads by seven or more runs.
The New Zealand team opened the game against the Philippines on the right foot, scoring runs early and then piling on another seven runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth inning to finish the game.
Togi Lote stood out with the bat, getting five runners home with her three hits.
Melanie Hulme got three runners home from four hits, while Lisa Kersten continued her strong hitting, getting two home from three hits.
On the pitching mound, Michelle Kingi pitched her second game of the day, facing 30 batters and giving up 10 hits while taking four strike-outs.
The White Sox hold a three-win, one-loss record and have two more games today, taking on South Korea and Chinese Taipei.
