New Zealand lost 4-7 to Japan in the tri-series women's softball tournament here today.
Japan started in the scoring in the third inning with two runs but the home side struck back in the next inning with White Sox captain Fiona Timu scoring on an error in the Japanese field.
Japan picked up a further two runs in the fifth inning and looked to be in charge but the Kiwis came back.
With one run in the fifth inning to Kalala Faalogo and another two in the sixth by Talilotu Tonu'u and Api Stone O'Kane, the match was tied going into the last inning.
Japan secured three runs batting first and New Zealand had no answer.
China beat both New Zealand and China on the first day of the tournament yesterday.
