Hutt Valley utility player Maleme Williams today won a recall to the New Zealand women's softball team after a nine-year absence.
White Sox coach Mike Walsh confirmed Williams in his squad of 17 for next month's tri-series against Japan and the World All Stars in Christchurch.
Williams hasn't played for the White Sox since the 1995-96 season, but won a recall after strong form in the batters box in recent seasons.
" She is developing into an exceptional hitter and we are looking forward to working with her to extend her skills even more," Walsh said.
Another feature of the team is the return of experienced internationals Jackie Smith from Auckland and Nic Pouaka-Grego of Canterbury.
Both were unavailable for the White Sox tour of Canada in June as Smith had recently had a new baby and Pouaka-Grego was expecting her first child.
Walsh said the team was chosen with an eye to the 2006 world championships.
The pitching team has a youthful look to it with Hutt Valley teenager Jessica Hau leading the way along with Lisa Such from Wellington and Auckland's Amanda Preston.
Southland pitcher Sheree Cartwright will bring experience to the team.
The tri-series runs from January 12-14.
