KEY POINTS:
The message will be simple for the New Zealand men's softball team as their immediate attention goes on next month's Pacific Series in Apia, Samoa.
The tournament is their final international competition before the world championship in Canada in July.
"This is another chance for players to impress before the final world championship selections are made," Black Sox coach Eddie Kohlhase said yesterday.
Twelve players are retained from the team who won an international tournament in Argentina last November. The experienced Jarrad Martin, Thomas Makea and Donny Hale, who were among the top batters in South America, spearhead the list.
Returning to the side is Nathan Nukunuku, whose presence strengthens the infield while left-handed pitcher Heinie Shannon and catcher Aaron Neemia will renew their combination.
Shannon and Neemia were unavailable for the trip to South America, while others returning to duty are outfielder Gus Leger and infielder Brad Rona, who missed selection last month.
The trip to Samoa will have extra significance for Shannon, Neemia and Leger, who all played for Samoa at the 2004 world championship.
The pitching staff will again be led by Jeremy Manley with support from Marty Grant and Shannon.
The Black Sox have dominated the Pacific Series since its inception in 2005, winning the first two events before losing to Australia in the 2007 final.
