West Ham United striker Paolo di Canio has won Fifa's Fair Play Award for 2001 after passing up the chance to score against an injured goalkeeper.
The Italian, who has a chequered disciplinary record, was rewarded for "a special act of good sportsmanship in an English premiership match last season," the world controlling body said.
Di Canio was well-placed to score a late winner against Everton last December when he caught the ball to stop the game and allow keeper Paul Gerrard to attend to a knee injury. The match finished 1-1.
