Former Manchester United idol George Best has admitted he felt like committing suicide following a life-saving liver transplant six weeks ago.
The 56-year-old told the Mail on Sunday he suffered terrible depression in the weeks after the 10-hour operation.
"I felt useless and wished I were dead. I thought, 'I can't cope, is it all worth it?' " he said.
His initial fears that his body was rejecting his new liver were unfounded, although after a second visit home tests showed that poisonous fluid had built up in his new liver due to a leaking bile duct.
