Gifted teenage skier Alice Robinson has pulled off an outstanding giant slalom win against a quality international field at a North American Cup event in Colorado.
The 16-year-old from Queenstown jumped from fifth after her first run in putting in a top class second run which enabled her to grab the win from Dutch racer Adriana Jelinkova by 0.08s.
It is the best result a New Zealand skier has achieved in their first year of senior competition, and on a par with some of the sport's best skiers, such as top American Mikaela Shiffrin, at the same age.
Shiffrin, now 22, is the reigning overall World Cup champion and Olympic and world champion in slalom.
"I'm super stoked with the result," Robinson said yesterday. "I was focusing on building off yesterday [her first run] and just skiing as best I could. It's a great way to end this past six-week training and racing block and another step forward."
