KEY POINTS:
New Zealand's Ben Griffin has qualified for the slalom finals at the world alpine ski championships in Are, Sweden.
The 20-year-old from Ohakune finished 23rd from 97 starters in the qualifying rounds today.
It is the first time a New Zealander has competed in both the speed and technical disciplines at the world championships, having taken part in the super-G, super-combi and giant slalom earlier.
He will be the sole New Zealand representative in the slalom finals. Christchurch's Scott Gange suffered a recurrence of a niggling back injury after his first run and Andrew Greig (Queenstown) did not finish his first run.
Griffin is the youngest member of the national team.
