New Zealand skier Jossi Wells has crashed out on the first day of competition at the X Grames in Aspen, Colorado.
The 16-year-old Cadrona skier, the first New Zealander to be invited to winter sport's richest and highest-profile event, has a suspected broken collarbone after crashing out in the second elimination run of the superpipe competition.
Wells' downfall was an ally oop flatspin 540.
New Zealand officials are awaiting information from Wells - last year's New Zealand Snowsports Person of the Year - after further medical examinations in Aspen.
Wells finished 15th, with the top 10 advancing to tomorrow's finals, headed by former X Games winner Simon Dumont and fellow American Tanner Hall.
