KEY POINTS:
Business is booming at Coronet Peak, with fresh snow underfoot and not a raindrop in sight.
The skifield was due to open yesterday, but despite a couple of hundred punters turning up it remained closed.
Twelve hours of rain the previous night had melted and waterlogged the snow.
Coronet spokesman David Ovendale says when the cold front hit yesterday, snow began to fall and they were able to run snow machines overnight.
He says there are about 2,000 people on the mountain, which is a huge crowd for an opening day.
Mr Ovendale says there are so many skiiers and boarders there they are thinking of opening a second major lift.
