An hour-and-a-half after New Zealand wrapped up another test series win at the Basin Reserve yesterday, two players were last to leave the ground.
The team had completed their team song - a post-win regular event - sprayed champagne and chased each other around the outfield like teenagers for a couple of minutes.
All had headed to the pavilion apart from Kane Williamson and BJ Watling, who departed side by side, chattering away. Fitting that, after their role in another superb test win, and their world record 365-run sixth-wicket stand which ripped the test away from Sri Lanka.
Watling's not big on effusive quotes and Williamson doesn't like talking about himself so, with the test and series wrapped up, his captain did it for him.
"It's hard while the guy is still so young to put this on his shoulders, but I firmly believe he could go down as New Zealand's greatest batter," Brendon McCullum said last night of the Basin Reserve man of the match.
