Sideline Champs: Report a junior sports game and WIN

Mums, dads and other fans are using the Rate my Game website on the sidelines of grassroots sports around New Zealand to report weekend and after-school sport - and this weekend, they have the chance to win prizes.

L'Oreal is offering up his-and-hers health and beauty packs to the best match reports each week.

Cate Fraser filed from the Chiefs Trophy rugby final, in which St Peter's College beat Taupo-nui-a-Tia 22-11, in front of more than 300 enthusiastic supporters in Taupo.. "Excellent sideline behaviour at a close and intense Chiefs final," she wrote. "No referee or player abuse; well-behaved crowd."

But one referee saw an uglier side of school sport: "I refereed girls football in consecutive weeks with vastly contrasting behaviour by coaches and players," she wrote.

"Week 1, the MAGS coach and players were fantastic. In what was a hard fought and quite physical match there was not a word of dissent and some enjoyable good humour. The next week the Diocesan coach and teacher whined for the entire match with the attitude ultimately spreading to their players who followed suit."

Supporters filed their reports to the new interactive Rate my Game site - and the reports were mostly a celebration of heartland and age-group sport.

Sarah Reiher won a L'Oreal Youthcode Luminosity Pack, valued at $95, for her match report when Restricted College Rifles Bullets played Pakuranga Ferraris in U8 rugby. "One particular U8 Pakuranga Ferraris father stood on sideline and shouted out encouragement for all boys in both teams, even learning the names of some of our players," wrote the College Rifles manager.

"Fabulous supporting from the sideline from him, and our coach reported back very positive feedback on Ferraris' coach too ... Kudos to U8 Pakuranga Ferraris dad wearing jacket with Auckland written on the back. You will know who you are."

Jamie Hitchcock won a L'Oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Pack for his rugby reports from the Ponsonby Springs vs Ponsonby White under 7's game.

"David's dad Matt had a terrific refereeing debut today hitting a clear G sharp on the whistle. New Zealand most certainly does have talent," he wrote. "By halftime we were right in it at 4-4 with the boys putting together more awesome plays than an Off-Broadway drama festival."
