Blurred vision has forced five-time Paralympian Colin Willis to retire from competition shooting.
Willis, of Christchurch, was a silver medallist at the 1998 world championships and won gold at the European championships in 2001.
His eyesight began to deteriorate late last year.
"I got an infection in my eye and it left me with blurred vision. Some days my sight is perfect, but other days it is not so good," said Willis, who was born with spina bifida.
"Unfortunately, it's at a stage where I cannot predict what it will be like the next day. I could shoot one day of a competition and it would be fine, but the next day it could be blurred. You just cannot compete like that."
