New Zealand's Tom Ashley has claimed silver at the RS:X world board sailing championships in Lake Garda, Italy, but Barbara Kendall narrowly missed out on a medal.
Auckland's Ashley finished the regatta on equal points with Casper Bouman of the Netherlands. However, Bouman claimed gold after being placed higher in last night's final medal race.
Ashley's two point leading margin going into the race wasn't quite enough to hold off the Dutch sailor who finished just ahead of him in the decider.
Three time Olympic medallist Barbara Kendall finished fourth in the medal race and fifth overall with two wins and four top three finishes from her 12 races.
Alessandra Sensini of Italy won gold with Marina Alabau Neira of Spain taking silver and Faustine Merret bronze.
Of the other New Zealanders in the men's division JP Tobin finished 18th overall, Michael Lichtwark 106, Nick Lichtwark 107, Antonio Cozzolino 128.
In the women's division Steffanie Williams was placed 40th, Hayley Thom 41, Kate Ellingham NZL 53 and Justina Sellers 61.
