Team New Zealand finished third overall in the pre-America's Cup yachting regatta in Italy today after their winning chances in race five were extinguished at the start.
Team NZ's boat NZL82 was over the line at a closely fought start in Trapani, Sicily, and had to return and start again.
From last in the 12-boat fleet, Team NZ fought back to finish sixth and secure third place overall, behind winners Alighi and second-placed BMW Oracle.
It meant Team NZ finished the season, encompassing match and fleet racing regattas at Valencia, Malmo and Trapani, with 61 points -- first equal with BMW Oracle.
Team NZ won on the countback, having beaten BMW Oracle twice in match race regattas this year and losing only once.
