Team New Zealand's win over China Team today has secured them a spot in the semifinals of the Louis Vuitton Cup.
The Emirates sponsored syndicate are now second on the leader board behind Chris Dickson's BMW Oracle Racing.
Oracle and Luna Rossa assured themselves semifinals spots yesterday.
Hometown heroes Desafio Espanol are currently in fourth spot. However with three flights to sail in round two, Victory Challenge are just five points behind them.
Dropping out of the semifinal race is Mascalzone Latino who lost to Team Shosholoza this morning after copping a penalty in the pre-start.
As expected the Kiwis easily dismissed China Team this morning winning by a comfortable 3 minutes 02s.
Although the Chinese had a 4 second jump on Team New Zealand at the start, Dean Barker rounded the top mark 38 seconds ahead.
From there NZL92 gained on each leg. Most notably the last run where they extended by 1 minute 02s.
In other matches Oracle beat +39 by 53 seconds and Spain beat United internet Team Germany by 1m 08s.
At the start of racing today Oracle shared the top spot with Luna Rossa Challenge, but the Italian team had the bye today and slipped to 3rd place
"It is nice to be alone at the top of the leaderboard," said Oracle tactician, Gavin Brady. "It means our destiny is in our own hands, which is where we wanted it to be."
Emirates Team New Zealand face their first real test of round two tonight when they line up against Luna Rossa.
The challengers are meeting to discuss the possibility of sailing the last two flights on Tuesday as opposed to one on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.
Following the Luna Rossa match Team New Zealand have Victory Challenge and Oracle left to sail. If they win both those matches and the Luna Rossa one they will move to the top of the leaderboard.
