Team New Zealand were due out on the water with both America's Cup boats early today, scotching rumours circulating yesterday that NZL92 had suffered serious structural damage last week.
The Emirates-sponsored syndicate were the hot topic on a number of sailing websites yesterday following speculation they had damaged their second new boat, NZL92, which was launched in Auckland in October.
Some yachting websites reported that NZL92 had limped back into its Valencia base last week, and had been tucked away in the boatshed since then, leading to speculation there was structural trouble.
Team New Zealand last night laughed off suggestions there are problems. A spokesman said there had been plenty of breeze last Wednesday, so both syndicate boats went out to train early and came back early. A big storm had been forecast so, along with a number of syndicates, they took their rigs out and put the boats in the shed.
They used the following day for maintenance then raced NZL84 against Luna Rossa on Friday leaving NZL92 ashore where it was measured. The syndicate then had the weekend off.
