KEY POINTS:
After days of no wind, racing in the challenger series in Valencia was postponed yesterday due to too much wind.
The north course had a south-westerly of 26-30 knots and the south course was 24-28 knots, with gusts of up to 35 knots.
Although the upper wind limit for the challenger series is 23 knots, it is at the race officer's discretion whether to race or not.
Team New Zealand navigator Kevin Hall said they had recorded 38 knots at the top of the mast.
"It reminded us of a good stiff south-westerly in Auckland. We have done a fair bit of sailing in that so we were excited.
"We were definitely ready today and we'll be ready again tomorrow. This was always going to happen at this time of the year."
Hall said a decent low not too far away was the culprit but it was moving away and the breeze was expected to drop.
In the 16 days the challenger series has been going, there have been only six days where racing has been fully completed. On three other days, some races have gone ahead while others have been postponed.
Flight three and four were scheduled to have taken place overnight. Team New Zealand were to have faced +39 and Areva Challenge.
If those races went ahead, they will face Desafio Espanol tonight.
After two losses in their opening round two races, Italian Mascalzone Latino have been fined €10,000 ($18,400) for using a different paint on their yacht from that called for in the rules.
Mascalzone Latino had declared this different paint manufacturer on a form filed with the measurers but it was not flagged at that time as a violation.
The jury ruled that Mascalzone Latino did not gain any performance advantage through the paint and that the breach of the rule was unintentional.
Due to this, the jury decided no sporting penalty should apply. But noting that rule compliance is an important component of participating in the America's Cup, the jury decided to impose the fine.
It is understood Mascalzone have replaced helmsman Flavio Flavani with New Zealander Cameron Dunn. It is unclear whether Dane Jes Gram-Hansen will still act as starting helmsman.
