The scheduled flight eight races of the Louis Vuitton Cup were due to begin this morning on the Hauraki Gulf, with races delayed from flight four planned for the afternoon.
In his first race of the Louis Vuitton challenger series, Conner was due to steer Stars & Stripes in a scheduled race against the lowly-placed Italian challenger Mascalzone Latino. Until now, Conner had confined himself to land during the challenger series.
In a weather-delayed flight four race later today, Stars & Stripes' regular helmsman, Ken Read, will take charge against Larry Ellison's Oracle (USA-76), skippered by Dickson after Dickson was put back on the boat by Ellison in a crew shakeup.
Flight eight will also see Dickson pitted against New Zealander Russell Coutts on Swiss boat Alinghi, OneWorld against France and the Swedish Victory Challenge racing the Great Britain entry Wight Lightning.
In other races in the postponed round four later today, Great Britain races France and Alinghi meets Luna Rossa.
The wind on the Hauraki Gulf off Auckland was predicted to be between 14 and 19 knots, increasing to 24 knots later in the day with 30-knot gusts.
