Team Dennis Conner was the only America's Cup challenger to reverse opening day results on the second day of racing in the Louis Vuitton Cup quarter finals.
Conner's New York Yacht Club-based Stars & Stripes beat Britain's GBR Challenge by 1min 17sec and 10 to 18 knot southwesterly on the Hauraki Gulf.
That result, which levelled the best-of-seven series at 1-1, was a better indication of the boats' speed than yesterday's win by the British Wight Lightning, when Stars and Stripes only surrendered the lead because they were forced to carry out a penalty turn.
The three other quarter final series stand at 2-0.
A broken spinnaker pole was not enough to prevent Oracle achieving their second win over OneWorld today. After leading for almost all the race, Oracle hung on after they had to put a sleeve on their pole when it broke while rounding the fifth mark.
The San Francisco-based Oracle team had been up by 30 seconds at that point and, with the damaged pole in place, they were able to fend off Seattle's OneWorld on the downwind charge to the finish line by 17sec.
Today's win in the Louis Vuitton Cup series was more decisive for Oracle, who trailed for much of yesterday's race, although only by small margins, before managing to slip ahead when OneWorld carried out a penalty turn.
Also in the top four group, Swiss-based Alinghi went 2-0 up by current Louis Vuitton Cup holder Prada, of Italy, by 8sec.
Results in the bottom four group were more clearcut. In addition to Stars & Stripes win, Sweden's Victory Challenge beat Le Defi of France by one minute 10sec.
The Swedes went 2-0 up in their quarterfinal bout and look clearly superior to the French.
