From a berth at the Viaduct Basin, two boats built for the 1995 America's Cup in San Diego are available for sailing cruises on the Waitemata Harbour.
NZL40 (ex FRA40) was built for a French challenge that never happened. She is now fitted with an engine but her paying passengers provide the power to grind the winches when she is under sail.
Her distinctive yellow hull was recently repainted a more conservative white.
NZL40 has been joined this year by NZL41, making it possible to not only sail on an AC class yacht, but to enjoy a bit of racing too.
NZL41, skippered by Peter Gilmour for the Japanese Nippon syndicate, reached the semifinals of the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup.
A two-hour sail on NZL40 or NZL41: $85 a person until October 1, $125 a person after.
Match racing $195 a person.
A three-hour match-racing charter of the two yachts and racing tender, catering for up to 60 people, costs $5950, excluding GST.
