Oracle BMW Racing handed OneWorld Challenge their second loss today in the Louis Vuitton challenger series beating them by an impressive 40s in a flight six race.
The victory would seem to vindicate the decision by Oracle syndicate head Larry Ellison to move sometimes-abrasive New Zealander Chris Dickson into the role of skipper early in the second round robin to try to stop a run of losses.
One of Dickson's decisions for today's race was to take Ellison out of the crew, while keeping Peter Holmberg - the man he replaced - on the helm.
After a near collision in the pre start after both sides opted for the committee boat end, Oracle stormed over the line 4s ahead.
With Peter Holmberg, John Cutler, Ian Burns, Chris Dickson and Tomasso Chiefi making up the afterguard, Oracle led OneWorld around the first mark by 34s.
OneWorld gained 6s downwind but still trailed Oracle around the second mark by 28s.
Oracle stormed ahead upwind and were far enough ahead to complete the penalty turn they incurred in the prestart for tacking too close to OneWorld - while still managing to hold on a comfortable lead.
Oracle powered home on the final leg to win by 40s.
