While the Prada team continues its challenge for the Louis Vuitton Cup aboard Luna Rossa ITA-74, the team's other boat, Luna Rossa ITA-80, will undergo modification.
ITA-80 will leave the Team Prada base today to be transfered to Cookson's boatyard in Glenfield where team designers and technicians will carry out the work.
At the same time, the development of ITA74 will continue and the boat will be used again in the second round robin. The Italians hope to have ITA80 back in the water in the first week of November.
After the departure of head designer Doug Peterson, it was expected Prada would make changes to their boats, which lack the successful double-knuckle bow introduced by Team New Zealand's Laurie Davidson in the last cup.
Syndicate head Patrizio Bertelli, who demoted Peterson, said differences of opinion existed over the development of the boats.
Neither Bertelli nor Peterson would elaborate on the differences, but when asked last week if he thought Prada would modify one of their boats Peterson replied: "I think they probably will.
"The design process never stops. So they're still going ahead improving the design."
There has been speculation that ITA-80 was suffering from structural problems, but Bertelli has denied that.
