PUNTA ALA HARBOUR, Milan - Team Prada has launched its new Luna Rossa yacht for a more than $180 million 2003 America's Cup challenge.
Luna Rossa (Red Moon) and a second Italian challenger, Mascalzaone Latino (Latin Rascal), will be among those fighting it out in the Louis Vuitton Cup, beginning October 1 off Auckland, for the chance to take the America's Cup title from Team New Zealand in a best-of-nine matches.
Skipper Francesco de Angelis says the new Luna Rossa, coloured grey and with the name Prada in red, is completely different to the previous boat, and there will be a second model.
Miuccia Prada, accompanied by Patrizio Bertelli and the whole Team Prada, christened the new Luna Rossa. Don Sandro Spinelli, parish priest of Punta Ala, was at hand for the traditional ceremony of the blessing.
