The Seattle-based cup syndicate of cellphone billionaire Craig McCaw yesterday paid tribute to Keith McCaw, their founder's youngest brother, who died on Sunday, aged 49.
The OneWorld Challenge inscribed Keith's name on the boom of their blue race yacht.
Keith was the youngest of four brothers in a family known for its successful business deals.
He made his fortune as a stockholder in McCaw Cellular Communications, which AT&T bought in 1994 for US$11.5 billion.
Forbes magazine listed Keith as the 445th richest man in the world this year, tied with brothers Bruce and John. Craig was listed as the world's 168th richest person, at US$2.4 billion.
Keith was found dead in a spa pool at his lakeside Seattle mansion.
The cause of death is not yet known.
Craig has left Auckland to join family members in the United States.
