OneWorld scored a 1min 5sec win over GBR to keep top position overall with Alinghi in Louis Vuitton Cup racing on the Hauraki Gulf this afternoon, although it must forfeit a one-point penalty at the end of the current second round robin.
GBR had the lead early on, but OneWorld caught them within five minutes of the start and pulled away about five minutes later.
By the first mark, OneWorld were 35sec ahead. They made their biggest gains on the upwind legs, and actually lost 12sec on the fourth, downwind, leg.
Following four days of race cancellations due to high winds on the Hauraki Gulf, today's racing began at 10.30 AM and was conducted on the shorter, fouir-leg course to allow time for two races to be sailed today.
OneWorld and GBR entered the starting box with a classic dial-up, clearing the starting line on split tacks with OneWorld taking control of the favoured right side of the race course. USA-67 gained on a windshift early on and gained more than a thirty second lead as they rounded the first mark.
The Americans defended their lead through the remaining legs, crossing the finish line 1:05 ahead of GBR-70 Wight Lightening.
Winds: 16-19k
Winning margin: 01.05
