4.30pm
The weather today foiled efforts to get the America's Cup challenger yachting series quarter-final repechage races under way on the Hauraki Gulf for the third successive day.
Organisers abandoned attempts to start racing at 3.45pm after the breeze on the gulf, which had been around five or six knots earlier today, died away to nothing.
Today's almost flat, calm conditions were in marked contrast to yesterday when strong winds and a rough chop caused racing to be abandoned.
But they were similar to those on Saturday, which was supposed to have been the first day of racing in the repechage section of the Louis Vuitton Cup.
So a start has yet to be made to the best-of-seven contests - due to be finished by next Monday at the latest -- which pit Team Dennis Conner (New York) against OneWorld (Seattle), and Prada (Italy) against Victory Challenge (Sweden).
The smooth surface of the gulf today did prove amenable to another form of watersport, and a chase boat race was organised to break the tedium.
Even though Team New Zealand are not involved in the yachting contest at this stage, one of their chase boats nevertheless entered the informal motor-powered competition, and went on to win narrowly from a Victory Challenge entrant, with an umpires' boat third.
