The French Challenge Le Defi Areva pulled off their first win of the Louis Vuitton Cup regatta this morning, beating OneWorld Challenge.
The Seattle syndicate decided to rest star helmsman James Spithill and skipper Peter Gilmour.
OneWorld had a comfortable lead before disaster struck rounding the second mark when their kite blew out and got tangled around the rudder.
The team struggled to free the kite and Le Defi sailed past and to a 57s victory.
Winning margin: 00.57
