The good news continued today for the British GBR team, who scored their third win in a row in the America's Cup challenger yachting series on the Hauraki Gulf.
The British boat Wight Lightning, GBR-70, led from the start, beating Mascalzone Latino of Italy by 54 seconds in the Louis Vuitton Cup competition.
GBR increased their lead on each of the four legs of the shorter than usual match, in winds that dropped throughout the match from 18 to 12 knots.
It is believed the Italians aboard ITA-72 may have broken their spinnaker pole in the latter stages of the race.
Today's win gave GBR four wins from eight races in the round while Mascalzone Latino have four.
Despite winter-like conditions, racing in the last day of the challenger series got underway just after 10.30 this morning.
The first round robin officially ended on Saturday but five races were left outstanding after light winds prevented them from being completed earlier in the round.
Today is the last day available for racing before a seven-day break which has been set aside for teams to modify their boats if they chose before the start of the second round robin.
Although the British have finished their eight races, Mascalzone has one more race to complete. They will take on fellow Italian challengers Prada this afternoon.
Today's races have been shortened from six legs to four to allow time to make up the two flights that were abandoned last week.
Winds: 12-18k
Winning margin: 00.54
