Almost one year after they abandoned their yacht in the Hauraki Gulf, the Oracle Racing crew once again found themselves diving for their lives today after their yacht tumbled over.
The American syndicate were out sailing to the north of Waiheke Island when they either damaged or lost their keel.
Three Auckland coast guard vessels were sent to the yacht to help with the rescue but it is understood that no one was hurt.
Attempts are being made to pump water from the yacht, so it can be towed back to shore.
Oracle Racing, set up by software billionaire Larry Ellison and with New Zealander Chris Dickson on its crew, lost a keel on the Hauraki Gulf in training last summer.
That keel was retrieved from the Hauraki Gulf in January.
Divers salvaged the 21-tonne keel from 30m for Oracle Racing. It took six days and three attempts to recover the lead bulb and steel fin, which broke away from during a training sail in November.
