KEY POINTS:
For the second day in a row, Valencia delivered a steady, stable breeze.
Once again Team New Zealand picked up an easy win beating United Internet Team Germany by more than two minutes. It was reasonably even off the line. New Zealand had the right and extended in the top third. They ran away from them off the wind and sailed away from them basically.
In those conditions, a steady 10-11 knots with moderate seas, NZL92 looked quick. Maybe those were her conditions.
But in saying that the opposition was mediocre.
With four races to go in round two a serious gap has developed between the challengers. There is BMW Oracle Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa and maybe Desafio Espanol and Mascalzone Latino then a big gap back to the rest. The gap may have even increased from last year.
In insect news Spain could quite possibly have the biggest cockroaches, if that is what they actually are, in the world. They are huge, about three times the size of your average kiwi weta. Gross.
In Alinghi news, it appears the Swiss really don't like Kiwis. The Swiss had a dinner for the English speaking media the other night and invited just one New Zealand journo despite there being a cast of thousands of us here. Might have something to do with that black heart campaign in the last cup. Sad though considering their skipper is a Kiwi aye and the syndicate did feel compelled to fly the Maori Sovereignty flag recently, which would indicate they still have some feelings for little old NZ.
