KEY POINTS:
After the bagging Auckland received in the last America's Cup for its erratic weather, how ironic was it that the first day of the Louis Vuitton Cup in Valencia was postponed due to a lack of wind.
A venue that was supposedly chosen for its reliable breeze.
Auckland was constantly criticised, especially by the European teams, after the weather caused numerous delays.
Seems Valencia has its "moments" as well.
The problem is that an unseasonable cold snap hasn't allowed the land to warm up which has prevented a sea breeze from developing.
In fairness once it settles it will be fine.
Team New Zealand were to have raced Mascalzone Latino overnight which would have been a decent hit out for them. They now meet +39 and Areva Challenge tonight who aren't expected to pose them too many difficulties.
Prada party
On the eve of the first race Prada held a party to celebrate their team Luna Rossa and say thanks to Valencia.
More than 1500 guests attended the swanky affair which was held at a giant fresh produce market in town.
On the invites the dress code was: glamorous.
The city of Valencia was rife with rumours that movie stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were attending.
As a result what felt like the whole of Valencia lined the road in order to catch a glimpse, which made it hugely embarrassing for us "non celebrities" to enter.
Unfortunately Brad and Angelina couldn't make it, neither could Michael Schumacher who is also believed to have been invited.
However actress Demi Moore and her husband Ashton Kutcher were there as was fellow actor Chloe Sevigny and a number of fashion journalists.
Oh and there was also a few sailing types like Alinghi skipper Brad Butterworth.
The setting for the party was kind of cool mixed in amongst big fruit, cheese, seafood and meat stands. The problem was there was about 500 too many people. The saying squashed in like sardines springs to mind.
Ashton Kutcher was scheduled to sail Luna Rossa as 18th man however the postponement of the racing meant it never eventuated. However the MTV 'punk'd' star did spend a good four hours on the boat and even gave grinding a go.
