KEY POINTS:
New Zealand sailor Karl Purdie beat defending champion Nick Craig of Britain to lift the world OK Dinghy championship in Warnemunde, Germany this morning (NZ time).
Wellington's Purdie, bronze medal winner in Poland last year, was consistently strong throughout the five-day regatta which drew 91 sailors from seven countries.
Purdie's teammate, and last year's silver medallist, Mark Perow, finished sixth.
The final day's racing did not see Purdie at his best when he finished 16th.
But he had enough points in hand to hold off Craig and take the title by four points after the 10th and final race was called off because of threatening high winds.
Purdie's win came in just his third appearance at the world championships, having finished fifth in Belmont, Australia, in 2006.
New Zealand results after the final day of the OK dinghy world championship in Warnemunde, Germany: Karl Purdie 1, Mark Perrow 2, Greg Wilcox 10, Matthew Steven 11, Steve McDowell 13, Luke O'Connell 16, Alistair Deaves 17, Trent Pryce 29, Grant Pedersen 43.
