Despite back problems, there is a great flow and attacking edge to Lewis' game although she is so hard on herself she often appears to be chewing a sour lolly. Everyone has to stay true to themselves but when you watch someone like Ko at work under pressure, you marvel at her temperament, her shot-making and poise. Golf fills her soul and has done since she picked up her first club.
She wants to be the best and has been very disciplined as she follows her ambition.
She also has a great sense of perspective and knows there will be many bumps on that journey.
Maybe she churns a great deal inside and has the ability to camouflage those emotions. I'm sure she gets nervous but has learned to embrace those vagaries and dance with them. That sense of natural pleasure about Ko is the 15th club in her bag.
It doesn't matter whether the Halberg judges rank her as this nation's best athlete again, although they will have a tough time convincing me otherwise after making that decision last year.
Ko's topped last year with three wins on this season's LPGA tour ending with the title and a stockpile of cash at the last stop in Florida.
She is already New Zealand's best female golfer and if her rate of success continues and she adds some majors to her honours' list, the bigger debate will be when she outstrips Michael Campbell and Bob Charles.
Ko's superb play has created ideas she will challenge for a title each time she plays. That is unrealistic but not missing a cut in 44 professional events generates that expectation.
We don't know what lies ahead for her, whether she will turn her talents to another career challenge, call it quits at the top like Lorena Ochoa, run into problems like Michelle Wie or play for another 40 years. But we do know she is a gem.
