Wellington rugby received a boost today with confirmation All Blacks Piri Weepu and Ma'a Nonu have re-signed with the union until 2007.
In addition to securing halfback Weepu and utility back Nonu -- this year's NPC captain -- former All Black prop Joe McDonnell and Manu Samoa hooker Mahonri Schwalger have also committed to another two seasons.
Today's announcement ends speculation over Nonu's future after reports in July that he was pursuing a contract with a National Rugby league club following his dumping from the Tri-Nations squad.
"There was a period of speculation about Ma'a's future, but we were always confident in his strong ties to the Wellington community and we are delighted that he has committed through to the end of 2007," Wellington Rugby chief executive Malcolm Holmes.
"The continued development of Piri and the experience of Joe and Mahonri will also be a key part of our mix moving forward and we were are very pleased with the quartet of re-signings."
