To'o Vaega and Brian Lima have returned to the Manu Samoa rugby squad, providing nearly a decade's service to their island although they have barely lived there.
Midfield back Vaega and winger Lima, both British-based, were yesterday named in the 24-member Samoan side for Pacific Rim matches against Tonga and Fiji and the test against the All Blacks at Albany on June 16.
Loose forward Junior Paramore, who like Vaega and Lima, developed his rugby in New Zealand and is now in Britain, also won re-selection.
After trials in Samoa, Auckland and Wellington, coach John Boe and his assistant Michael Jones opted for 14 forwards and 10 backs.
The only regular Super 12 player in the side is winger Afato So'oalo.
"There are new players who bring with them unique skills and with that comes the potential for game expansion," Jones said.
"This gives us a lot more flexibility in how we approach each game, which is a definite advantage when you play on the international stage. It will add to the natural flair that Samoan rugby is famous for."
The Samoans play Tonga in Apia on June 2 and then Fiji in Suva on June 9, before meeting the All Blacks.
