LONDON - New Zealand-born fullback Mark Van Gisbergen was named in a 30-man England squad yesterday for the November internationals against Australia, New Zealand and Samoa.
Van Gisbergen, who completed his residency qualification period two weeks ago, takes over from former captain Jason Robinson who announced his international retirement at the weekend.
World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson, who has not represented his country since drop-kicking the winning goal against Australia two years ago, has been omitted to allow him more time to recover full match fitness.
Charlie Hodgson, one of the few players to return from the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand this year with his reputation intact, will be the first choice first five-eighths.
England, who have won only seven of 16 tests since their World Cup triumph, have also dropped centre Will Greenwood and wing Ben Cohen.
