The Chiefs' are seeking a replacement for wing Sailosi Tagicakibau, who has been diagnosed with a broken leg.
Chiefs coach Ian Foster yesterday said from Sydney that a radiologist had confirmed initial suspicions of a fractured fibula in Tagicakibau's lower leg after studying X-rays taken in South Africa.
The injury was sustained in the Chiefs' 37-34 win over the Stormers in Cape Town on Sunday (NZ time).
The Samoan representative, who the Chiefs picked up in the Super 12 draft from Taranaki, was to return home today and would be out for six to eight weeks, according to Foster.
"We will be bringing someone over to replace him because we do not have enough cover in our back three -- but we have to now sit down and decide who that is," Foster said.
The Chiefs play the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday night.
Midfielder Grant McQuoid is the only Chiefs back who didn't go on their three-match overseas tour, while his Bay of Plenty teammate Anthony Tahana is the specialist wing in their wider training group.
There was no update on loose forward Sione Lauaki, who is still waiting to have his stiff neck X-rayed.
Foster said the X-rays would probably be taken today but team management expected no serious issue with the injury and were just doing it as a precaution.
Second five-eighth David Hill left the field with an injured shoulder against the Stormers but Foster said it had been a pinched nerve and was not expected to keep him out of the match against the Brumbies.
