Wendell Sailor has admitted he let his team-mates down after being suspended indefinitely for returning a positive drug test.
Sailor has returned to Sydney from north Queensland, where he fled after being dumped from New South Wales's Super 14 clash with Wellington on Saturday evening.
The ABC understands the 31-year-old may Sailor have tested positive to the recreational drug cocaine.
Sailor can now either accept the result of his 'A' sample, or request that his 'B' sample be tested.
He faces a two-year international ban but gave no indication of whether he will challenge the test upon returning to his Bronte Beach home this afternoon.
"It's been a pretty tough time," he said.
"My thoughts are with the boys at the moment. I put a little bit of pressure on them at the weekend.
"Obviously I've got a family to look after here."
The Waratahs went on to lose the clash 19-14, handing the Hurricanes hosting rights for the semi-final between the two teams on Friday.
The New South Wales squad flies out of Sydney this morning to prepare for the clash.
