Hawke's Bay Magpies and Maori All Blacks first five-eighths Ihaia West has signed with the Blues for the 2015 and 2016 Super Rugby seasons.
The 22-year-old livewire was without a Super Rugby contract at the start of the year and joined the Blues in April to provide cover for the injured Baden Kerr.
West has become a revelation for the franchise, claiming the number 10 jersey for the last three games and leading the team around the field with aplomb. He has played six game for the Blues in the second half of the season, scoring 49 points along with a 77.3 percent percent rate with the boot, according to Herald Rugby Stats Centre.
The Blues were reportedly chasing the signature of All Blacks number 10 Beauden Barrett but the signing of West suggest that Barrett will stay with the Hurricanes.
Blues head coach Sir John Kirwan lauded West's temperament and was delighted to retain his services for the next two years.
