Hurricanes coach Colin Cooper has recalled All Black halfback Piri Weepu to the starting side for Saturday's crunch match against the Chiefs in Hamilton.
With fellow All Black Alby Mathewson in such fine form, Weepu has had to bide his time on the bench since returning from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago.
But Cooper has opted for the experience of Weepu for the top of the table clash at Waikato Stadium.
All Black fullback Cory Jane also recovered from a calf strain and takes his place in the starting side, pushing Tamati Ellison to the wing.
Ellison has been bracketed with Zac Guildford because of a head knock suffered last week against the Blues and will need to pass a fitness test before being cleared to play.
