All Blacks loose forward Adam Thomson has ended speculation about his future by re-signing with the Highlanders for the 2011 Super 15 rugby season.
Thomson had been considering a move to the Crusaders, who have already lured Highlanders fullback Israel Dagg north for next year.
New Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph today welcomed Thomson's re-signing, saying his experience and skill were import to the team's hopes next season.
Thomson made the first of his 39 appearances for the Highlanders in 2004. He has played 17 tests for the All Blacks but lost his place in the national squad this year to Wellington's Victor Vito.
"We have talked about our goals for next year and I am fully supportive of Adam's desire to work on getting back into a black jersey," Joseph said.
"Adam now just needs to get on and start playing the type of rugby that got him selected in the All Blacks. Having made the call will now allow him to concentrate on playing."
Thomson said he had taken his time to consider all his options.
"This was one of the most significant decisions of my career and one that was not taken lightly, it was important for me to consider all of my options and I am happy to recommit to the Highlanders again next year.
"I am excited about the direction Jamie is taking the team, and I am very happy I will be able to remain loyal to the region," he said.
