Waratahs 40 Cheetahs 17
The Cheetahs have never won a match in Australia or New Zealand and they never threatened to win this one.
Maybe it was the rain or maybe it is the gathering force that is the Waratahs in this year's Super 14 or maybe it's just because the Cheetahs are, well, average.
In fact, that may be being a little unkind to average as the South Africans barely managed a movement that even suggested a try before the game was long gone - and their defence could often have been compared with a damp paper napkin.
The Waratahs weren't quite on top of their game either - although they didn't have much to overcome and Berrick Barnes is starting to look a major influence.
Rob Horne scored the first try after a break and fine distribution by Barnes. Benn Robinson scored after the halftime siren following some intense pressure by the forwards peeling and driving.
They did the same after halftime, with prop Al Baxter scoring his first Super 14 try in his 100th match.
That sent the Australian TV commentators into raptures, while fullback Kurtley Beale scored an intercept try soon after for the bonus point and the Waratahs stood atop the Super 14 table.
That done, the game descended into a kind of, well, averageness. The Waratahs have a sterner test this week away to the Crusaders and, when they have their "A" game going, could be up to it.
