Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett has signed forwards Brad Shields and Jeremy Thrush for next year's Super rugby season.
Shields will make his Super rugby debut, while Thrush has re-signed for 2012 with an option for 2013. The signings bring the total number of contracted players to 24 for next year.
Hammett said Shields, a New Zealand under-20 representative, showed real promise.
"Whilst he is still young, he has shown that he can match any opponent physically and was rated as the forward of the tournament by the New Zealand under-20 coaches," he said.
Hammett said Thrush's experience was a huge plus for the Hurricanes franchise.
"Jeremy, who made his 50th appearance for the franchise this year, is a strong leader and an experienced member of our squad. He is committed team member and we're thrilled to have him on board."
