Rugby: Sharks will feed on our mistakes - Barrett

The Hurricanes need to shelve last week's free-wheeling memories and take their patience pills for Sunday's game against the Sharks in Durban.

Five eighths Beauden Barrett said that would be a key to build on their impressive win against the Lions and leaving South Africa in strong form for the run to the tournament interval.

He expected the Sharks, who flew home this week, to kick a lot and exert pressure with their rushing defence. They would ease off their training and concentrate on getting their mental intensity correct.

"They will look to feed on our mistakes," he said.

Super rugby matches were usually fast but were nothing like the intensity of tests "when you feel a sting and burn."

The Hurricanes shifted camp this week from the high veldt to the coastal city of Durban. In their downtime some went cage-diving but most were ill in the rough conditions while Barrett took to the golf course.

In training they have concentrated on their defence which was so strong against Lions after some disappointing lapses the week before in their loss to the Chiefs.

"We're still getting there," Barrett said.

"I don't think we have realized out potential yet and we haven't put together a full 80 minute game. We leave a lot of points out there still but it is exciting and it's only halfway through the comp and if we can keep building, win those close games and stay in the hunt, our performances will get better."
