The Reds have received a boost ahead of Saturday's Super rugby semifinal against the Blues after openside flanker Beau Robinson made a successful return from injury in the Brisbane club competition yesterday.
A key member of the Reds loose trio, Robinson had been out of action since dislocating an elbow during the 17-16 victory over the Crusaders on May 29.
Robinson played half a game for the Souths club against GPS, indicating he will be in contention to return after a frustrating month on the sidelines.
"Physically, I felt fine out there. It was more about being mentally ready for a game of rugby," Robinson said.
"Apart from losing a couple of kilos, the time off has really freshened me up. I'm ready to rip in."
Robinson was waging an effective breakdown battle with All Blacks captain Richie McCaw until he injured his right elbow in the May match.
He had arthroscopic surgery which removed bone fragments and the strained ligaments have since mended.
Robinson's performance yesterday was monitored by the Reds defensive coach Matt Taylor and medical staff.
He wore a custom made guard to protect the joint but downplayed its significance.
"The brace looks worse than it actually is and it will be fine if the doctor decides I have to wear it again next week," Robinson told The Sunday Mail newspaper.
"It's just awesome to get back to playing a week earlier than I expected. I've been busting a gut to play again and get back into the Reds."
