Injury has ruled prop Clint Newland out of Saturday's Super 14 rugby match against the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday.
Newland strained his back during the defeat of the Waratahs in Invercargill last Friday and his place in the squad could yet go to Jamie Mackintosh, who is working his way back to fitness from a toe injury.
Mackintosh played 60 minutes in a Southland club game last Thursday on the blindside flank but a true gauge of his readiness will come when he tests the toe in scrummaging training.
Experienced Otago prop Keith Cameron will come into the full squad if Mackintosh does not make the trip.
Also under an injury cloud is centre Kendrick Lynn, who has strained his groin.
