Rugby: McAlister out of opener

Blues first-five Luke McAlister has been ruled out of his side's season-opening match against the Crusaders with concussion.

Stephen Brett will get the first chance in the Blues' number 10 jersey.

Blues coach Pat Lam says McAlister will only be sidelined for one week.

Lam says McAlister has failed his concussion test this week, but they're hopeful he'll be passed fit next week.

Halfback Chris Smylie is touch and go to be fit for Saturday's match.
