Blues coach Pat Lam has opted against selecting All Black midfield Luke McAlister for Saturday's Super 14 match against the Waratahs in Sydney.
McAlister, who is returning from injury, turned out for the Blues' development side yesterday but Lam has decided to stick with the same side which beat the Brumbies 39-34 in Auckland last week.
"(McAlister) had a good 60 minutes, which is pleasing, and there's a chance to get a bit more club rugby this weekend," said Lam.
"We will see how he goes next week."
McAlister, who returned to New Zealand last year after a stint in England, has yet to make his comeback to the Super 14.
There is one likely change on the bench, with Chris Smylie bracketed with Taniela Moa as back-up halfback.
Smylie rolled an ankle in training on Monday and was still being assessed, but Lam rated him as doubtful.
Lam said the players selected deserved another opportunity after their performance against the Brumbies.
