Chiefs coach Ian Foster has shuffled his mid-field in an attempt to get their Super 14 rugby campaign back on track this Friday.
Foster named former Blues pivot Tasesa Lavea at second five eighth for his first starting spot, while regular No 12 Tane Tu'ipulotu shifts one spot to centre for the clash against the Lions at Waikato Stadium.
In the forwards lock Kristian Ormsby returns to the starting line-up, partnering Keith Robinson, while Foster has picked a physical loose-forward trio in Sione Lauaki at blindside flanker, Marty Holah at openside and Liam Messam at No 8.
The Chiefs had the bye last week following their 22-all draw with the Cheetahs in South Africa on March 3.
They lie 13th with no wins from five matches, while Lions are in sixth place.
